Keeping your home hygienic on a regular basis can be a costly prospect, each task requiring a different, specific cleaning product. As it turns out, though, there is a simple, less costly, all-in-one solution that might be a bit of a surprise: denture cleaners. If you think about this, it actually makes a lot of sense. Since denture cleaners use chemicals such as sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, and sodium polyphosphate to keep false teeth looking white and sparkly, it stands to reason that they could do the same for other surfaces.
Furthermore, denture cleaners tend to be far less expensive than most household cleaning products. For example, you can buy a box of 216 Efferdent tablets for approximately $15 on Amazon.com. By comparison, a package of 12 Vanish Drop-Ins or a Clorox Toilet Wand with 36 refills costs about $20. The following is a list of amazing ways that denture cleaners can benefit you even if you have a mouth full of perfect teeth.
They can clean toilet bowls. As you might have guessed from the previous paragraph, this is one of their most useful features. Dentures were originally made out of porcelain, so denture cleaners are still excellent at cleaning it. Instead of putting in toilet bowl cleaner and scrubbing furiously, all you have to do is drop in 1-3 denture tablets, depending on the toilet. Close the toilet seat, leave them in for 20 minutes, and flush. They will often clean the bowl so thoroughly that you won’t even need to scrub afterwards.
They can unclog drains. Denture cleaners can take away the hassle of dealing with a clogged drain. Forget about using Drano or calling a plumber. All you need to do is drop 1-2 tablets into the drain and run water over them until the clog clears. If that doesn’t work, chop up a few more tablets into smaller pieces, and drop them directly down the drainpipe. Then, pour in a cup of white vinegar, and wait 3-4 minutes. Run very hot water, and that should do the trick.
They can clean dirty or smelly shoes. Not only can denture cleaners clean stains off of shoes, they can also help neutralize their odor. Fill a tub or sink with warm water, submerge the shoes, and drop in 1-2 denture cleaner tablets. Make sure the shoes are washable first, though.
They can restore luster to diamonds. If you find that any of your diamond jewelry is beginning to sparkle less than it once did, pour a glass of water, and drop in a denture tablet. Then, place your diamonds into the glass, and leave them there for 3-5 minutes. Afterwards, remove and rinse them off. They should be sparkling as good as new.
They can remove mineral deposits. When mineral deposits form on glasses, thermoses, and vases or inside your coffeemaker, denture cleaners can remove them. In the case of one of the former objects, fill it with water, and drop in a tablet. It will immediately begin fizzing, and once it’s stopped, all of the mineral deposits will be gone. In the case of a coffeemaker, drop 2 tablets into the tank, fill with water, and turn on the coffeemaker. Let it run. When it’s done, pour out the water, and rinse it out twice more. Your coffee will taste better, and the bacteria inside the coffeemaker will be eliminated, as well.
They can remove food that’s stuck to a dish or pan. If food has burned onto a plate or hard-to-remove food such as oatmeal has solidified onto it, soak it in warm water with 1-2 denture cleaner tablets for 30 minutes to an hour before following up with dish soap.
All in all, denture cleaners are a great example of how a product intended for one use can be creatively utilized in order to solve other problems, as well.
